WIC 5150 (Adult) and WIC 5585 (Youth) are California state laws that allow individuals meeting certain criteria to be involuntarily detained and evaluated for up to 72 hours in the Crisis Stabilization Unit or hospital Emergency Department. Criteria include danger to self, danger to others, and grave disability. If a person no longer meets these criteria at any point during the 72 hours, they can no longer be involuntarily detained.
